About Us

Social Justice League is a women led, not for profit Community Based Organization founded in Ndhiwa-Homabay County- Kenya, registered under the Directorate of Social Protection Services housed by Kenya’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. Founded in 2022 by a group of young lawyers, SJL works with rural communities to promote Gender Democracy and Gender Equality advocating for the actualization and realization of fundamental human rights enshrined in Kenya’s constitution and other enabling legislations.

Touched by the challenges observed in their own communities, the founding members came together and felt the need for an action plan and interventions that addresses the basic challenges faced by women, youth, and persons with disabilities and marginalized groups in rural Kenyan communities. Understanding the fact that rural communities are the backbone of families, communities and nations, and are the most affected by conflicts, culture, under representation and are unheard during legislation; our work majorly revolves around Community-Based Action and is rooted in the fundamental principles of human rights, gender democracy and equality, policy and legislation advocacy and dialogue, public education, economic empowerment, and sexual and reproductive rights.

We work with rural communities, county and national governments and other Non-Governmental organizations to address these challenges and leverage our partnerships to ensure positive and meaningful change. Our dedicated team understands that there’s need to amplify the voices of rural communities, more lessons to learn and that these efforts can strengthen, empower and build capacities within our rural communities.
